This man dreamed big right from the start. As a mere 15 year old, he announced his dream and he went on to achieve it.
"I want to be the best built man in the world. Then I want to go to America and be in movies. I want to be an actor." - Arnold Schwarzenegger

With an accent & a name almost impossible to write, Arnie, “The Austrian Oak”, defied the odds by going from bodybuilder to world’s most popular movie star. From Mr. “Olympia” to “Hercules” to “Conan” to “The Terminator” to bad guy, “Mr Freeze”, Arnie has certainly left his mark.

Even though he had wised up a little, Arnold was still incorrigible when it came down to "having fun". Once he decided to promote himself in somewhat of an odd way: he went down to Munich's shopping district, in the middle of a snow storm, wearing only swimsuit trunks! His close friends know dozens of similar stories about Arnold's extravagant exploits.
Whenever Arnold would lose a contest, he knew that something was still amiss in his training. He was big and could train in a disciplined way but his muscles were not sufficiently defined and he also knew very little about how how a certain diet could help him. He felt that only the Americans knew a lot more than he did, in those fields, so he decided to leave Austria bound for the US, where he could learn from his opponents and then, one day soon, defeat them.
During the 1969 IFBB Mr. Olympia, the first one in which he competed, Arnold suddenly understood why they called Sergio Oliva (a massive bodybuilder from Cuba, now living in the US) THE MYTH. Oliva was famous for his lengthy "pumping" routine before the contest. He used to wear a long apron, to hide the sight of his muscles from his opponents. "When it came time to go on stage for the pose down - recalls Arnold - Sergio took the long apron off and started walking in front of me down the hall. Then, nonchalantly lifting one of his shoulders, he spread the largest lat muscle I had ever seen; then he repeated the same movement with the other shoulder. His back muscles were so huge that he seemed to be as wide as the hall itself! As far as I was concerned, I already knew - then and there - I would lose against him." In fact, Sergio won, even though not by much, over Arnold. Arnold claims that was the last time an opponent was able to intimidate him. And it was also the last time Sergio Oliva was able to defeat the "Austrian Oak."

Arnold Schwarzenegger is the most well known body builder of all time. Born in Austria in 1947 Arnold (also known as Arnie) is the son of the local Police chief in Thal. From a young age Arnie was heavily in to sports very much like his father and lifted his first weight at the age of 13 years in 1960. The following year, 1961, Arnold decided that bodybuilding was the sport for him.
At the age of 14 Arnold professes to have started an intensive training program for olympic lifting by visiting a gym in Graz not far from where he lived. It was during this time that Arnold regularly visited the local theatre and watched films of many bodybuilding legends such as Reg Park and Steve Reeves thus fuelling Arnold Schwarzenegger's decision to try bodybuilding.
By 1965 Schwarzenegger was enrolled to fulfil his one year of conscription to the Austrian army, something all Austrian men were expected to do. It was during his conscription that Arnold won the Junior Mr. Europe title. After winning the Junior Mr. Europe title Schwarzenegger wanted to compete in more competitions, something the army would not let him do.
Arnold went AWOL from training so he could compete in a competition in Stuttgart, Germany. He won the title of "Best built man in Europe" which elated the young Arnie and made him famous. Unfortunately the Austrian army took a dim view of his antics and Arnold was put in Army prison for a week.
In 1966 after leaving the army the young Arnold Schwarzenegger travelled to London to compete in Mr. Universe where he came second due to not having enough muscle definition. The following year, 1967, Arnold went back and won the Mr. Universe title at the age of 20 becoming the youngest ever Mr. Universe. Arnie won Mr. Universe another four times in his career.
Arnie used the Mr. Universe title as his ticket to travel to America where speaking little English and having a heavy accent he landed in California. Training out of Golds Gym under the patronage of Joe Wieder Arnold won the Mr. Olympia title in 1970 aged just 23. Arnie went on to win Mr. Olympia seven times in his career.

Throughout his career the uber-star Arnold Schwarzenegger has made films which have made loads of money. How much? Oceans of it. Obscene amounts of dosh ... the kind of money you and I can only dream about. For that 'crime' a large part of the movie fraternity have been sniffy about his acting ability. This is totally wrong: Arnie is one of the most important actors of the 20th-centry.
He was born to a Gendarmerie-Kommandant policeman, Gustav Schwarzenegger (1907-1972) and his wife Aurelia Jadrny (1922-1998). His parents were members of the Nazi party. With $20 in his pocket, and not fluent in English, he moved to the U.S. in 1968. Over the last two decades, this charismatic Austrian bodybuilder has become one of the world's leading box-office attractions, married into one of America's foremost families and built a thriving business and real estate empire.
After conquering the world as arguably the greatest body builder who ever lived, he went to America to make his name in motion pictures. His career has been a carefully orchestrated one, reflecting an aggressive business and marketing acumen which has also brought him success in other fields (e.g., he now produces the Mr. Universe and Mr. Olympia pageants in which he once competed). With an eagerness not only to adapt to American life but to conquer it, reminiscent of the earlier immigrants who founded America's entertainment industry, he became a naturalized citizen in 1983 and joined the country's nobility with his 1986 marriage to newscaster Maria Shriver, a member of the Kennedy family.

Filmwise, it's a pity he's become governor of California as it would have been fascinating to see how his film career would have developed in late middle/early old age. What parts would he have taken? Would there have been more comedy? Would he have wanted to play parts like father of Terminator? Or would he have settled in supporting roles in dot.com romances? It is almost impossible to say what course his career would have gone: we'll have to wait until his govenor tenure is over and see if he returns to films.
One thing's for sure: whatever he'd done alot of people would have paid to see it.
